Design rationale

She is an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She studied Marine Biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao (1991–1995), and the marine motifs reflect both her academic training and career. The dolphin on the shield refers to her Puerto Rican heritage, her birthplace in Fajardo, and her personal value of honor. At her request, the shield ends in a semi-circular arch, in keeping with Hispanic heraldic tradition. The three escallops symbolize her family and her compassion. She currently resides in Houston, Texas, which is why the owl in her crest holds a bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis), the state flower of Texas since 1901. The owl represents her profession and her wisdom. A small gold heart on the chain pendant indicates her cadency as first daughter.

G0076, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta's grant for the arms of Claes Zangenberg's arms, whose full achievement has been emblazoned by me for such grant. This full achievement includes a crown of Baron, it is essential to emphasize that the inclusion of these ornaments does not constitute legal recognition of titles of nobility by the Republic of Malta; rather, it reflects the Office's mandate to preserve and document the cultural and heraldic heritage of the petitioners. The current Chief Herald of Arms of Malta has clarified in various interviews and lectures that, as the Constitution of Malta has not recognized titles of nobility since 1975, the legal framework allowing the Republic of Malta to register a coat of arms featuring coronets is to treat it as historical and cultural evidence of a lineage. This approach is detailed in the book [Gauci, C. A.; 2023; 145], «The Way Forward»: «Thus, although the State recognizes the coat of arms of an individual as granted/registered by the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta, this does not mean that the Chief Herald or indeed the Republic of Malta are also automatically recognizing any title of nobility used by the individual in question. The Arms are simply the reflection, verbal and pictorial of any honours mentioned in the Letters Patent or Document of Registration». In Castilian heraldic tradition, the «adiestrado» ~ «tierce» used in this coat of arms and its symmetrical «siniestrado» ~ «tierce sinister» are «irregular divisions of the field by one line» ~ «particiones irregulares». That is why I use «tierce» and «tierce sinister» in English. There is another possibility, which is to call the «adiestrado» ~ «pale in dexter flank» and the «siniestrado» ~ «pale in sinister flank», thus ceasing to be a type of «divisions of the field» ~ «particiones» and becoming «ordinaries» ~ «piezas fundamentales». This has implications, as the rule of tinctures would apply if it were considered a «pale» ~ «palo». In any case, I will write the blazon in both ways. Design rationale

These are canting arms because her surname is «Peregrina» ~ «pilgrim», and her coat of arms depicts the arm of a pilgrim, as she is one herself, with her staff and her gourd for carrying water, advancing towards the dexter, in order to reach the destination of her three most important life pilgrimages: Santiago de Compostela, Rome, and Jerusalem. Following [Petra Sancta, S.; 1634; pages 417–418], in seventeenth-century academic emblematics the staff symbolizes the road understood as an intellectual journey, proper to a traveller who appears humble yet is rich in knowledge, while the gourd, which may seem empty, represents the wisdom preserved within it and from which learning ultimately emerges.

In Castilian, the lion and the leopard are the same heraldic animal, which is referred to by one name or the other depending on its attitude: a) The lion is shown in profile and rampant, as in the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Spain. b) The leopard is passant and guardant, faces the observer, as in the coat of arms of the Kingdom of England. c) The «león leopardado» is shown in profile like the lion, but is passant like the leopard, as in the arms of the family of Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg. d) The «león leopardado» is guardant like the leopard, but is rampant like the lion; this is the case with the supporters of this coat of arms. The conclusion drawn from the four points above is that the direction of the gaze takes precedence over the posture of the body: when is guardant it is termed a leopard, and when it is shown in profile it is termed a lion.

I interpret its coat of arms with: a Spanish base in semicircular (round) form; the field illuminated in Sable; the lion, its crown and its baton outlined of the field, shaded and illuminated in Or, except the claws and tongue which are Gules; and the whole with a lightly beaten metal finish.

The baton ends in a fleur-de-lis, hence it is blazoned as «flory» and according to [Avilés, J.; 1780a; página 93] «flordelisadas, se dice de las Cruces, cuyos brazos se terminan en flores de Lis».

For a time I distinguished between «flordelisadas» and «florenzadas» crosses depending on the artistic style of the termination, but over time I found that the difference was, precisely, more artistic than heraldic, so I decided to use the term flordelisada in a general way.

Some authors consider them different terms and others equivalent. If they are considered equivalent then florenzadas ~ flordelisadas and, therefore, «cetro florenzado» ~ «cetro flordelisado». In English one says «flory» ~ «flordelisado» and it can also be found written as «fleury» ~ «floretty» ~ «florenté», for example, [The Heraldry Society; 2013; página 6] uses the term «flory» to describe the very arms of The Heraldry Society when it blazons them as «Quarterly Azure and Gules a Lion's Face crowned with an Ancient Crown Or within a Tressure flory on the outer edge of the same».
