In Castile, a coat of arms quarterly does not necessarily signify inheritance. This schema illustrates two practices: a) Quarterings can represent the mother in the 1^st and 4^th quarters and the father in the 2^nd and 3^rd, highlighting the prominence given to the maternal line by placing it in the most visible quarters. b) Quarterings can also include personal symbols and concepts, like canting arms, for example, «Manuel» =«mano» + «ala» = «hand» + «wing», combined with ancestral arms. This flexibility reflects Castilian heraldic traditions, where arms are not strictly marshalled by inheritance. The inclusion of maternal arms in the 1^st and 4^th quarters highlights how Castilian heraldry often elevates maternal heritage, differing from some other heraldic traditions. The previous commentary emphasizes the creative freedom in Castile, where quartering could incorporate personal symbols or canting arms without the constraints of inheritance or dominium. This flexibility aligns with Castilian culture, allowing heraldry to reflect personal identity, not just dynastic ties. Personal coat of arms of Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, grant G0134 by Dr. Charles A. Gauci, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta. This coat of arms has been emblazoned by me. I have written the blazon in English and Castilian in a structured way to observe the parallelism between both forms. Someone asked me a interesting question about the first quarter: «Why is the lion overlapping the fess (i.e., colour on colour)?» This was my answer: I had no choice in the design, since each quarter represents one of her ancestral lineages, and the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta provided the precise blazon for each of them. My work was to paint the coat of arms according to those official instructions. In the case of the lion, it overlaps slightly because it is shown walking upon the fess. And importantly, the rule of tincture does not apply to tiny details. A well-known example is the lions of the arms of the Kingdom of England, whose claws are color Azure over a color Gules field. In this case, the lion’s claws and the underside of its paws are color Gules over an color Azure fess, perfectly acceptable for such small elements.

Emblem interpretation with: the two-handed swords placed along the diagonals of an imaginary rectangle, with a 5x6 proportion, like a shield, that is, with angles of 50.2°, between the axis of the two-handed swords and the imaginary base of the emblem, unlike the original emblem where the two-handed swords are on the diagonals of a square, therefore with angles of 45°; the two-handed swords and the closed royal crown are outlined in Sable, illuminated and the whole with a raised-stroke execution.

This emblem of the Royal Association of Hidalgos of Spain has 2 two-handed swords that, unlike usual swords, due to their great length and weight, their fencing must be two-handed, hence their name.

The Spanish word «mandoble» comes from «mano doble», meaning «double hand», and refers to a sword wielded with both hands, the equivalent of the English «two-handed sword».

It is known that they are two-handed swords because the 2 that appear in the emblem have a crescent or crossguard in their iron. This crescent is called in Castilian «falsaguarda» and also «ganchos de parada» and its functionality is to protect from the slashes that the opponent could give close to the blade of the two-handed sword.
