Design rationale

This design combines Byrne, O'Byrne, Ó Broin arms: «Gules, a chevron between three dexter hands apaumée couped at the wrist Argent», with O'Hanlon, Ó hAnluain arms: «Vert, on a mount in base proper, a boar passant Ermine».

These features embody the heraldic adaptation by Gaelic chieftains, integrating ancient tribal symbolism deeply rooted in Celtic mythology and rich local traditions from Wicklow and Armagh.

This design, while combining elements from each and respects this symbolism:

• The layout of the traditional Byrne arms was chosen as the basis for the new arms to reflect the armiger's surname, however, for difference only one of the three dexter hands is employed but in the prime dexter position on the shield and retaining its tinctures. The sinister position has a key to emphasise and reflect the motto «To Thine Own Self Be True» as the essential or key message for one's life, integrity and honesty.
• The base of the shield has the boar taken from the O'Hanlon arms, an ancient symbol of bravery, courage, and tenacity.
• The chevron ermine was chosen to incorporate an element used in various versions of the Byrne and O'Hanlon traditional arms and to reflect the nobility of these two ancient clans/septs who fought long and hard to maintain their independence right up to the XVII century.

Complete coat of arms with motto, crest, and two supporters, illuminated, outlined in Sable and in raised-stroke, and mounted on a circular chinapiería, illuminated in Argent and Or metal; the chinapiería is the same used to damask the mantling and the torse and it bears 269 as its registration number within my chinapiería catalogue.

[Real Academia Española; 2014] defines «adamascar» as «to give fabrics an appearance similar to damask» and «damasco» as «a strong silk or wool fabric with patterns formed by the weave».

Canting arms of Dolores Peregrina Corona designed by Juan Lanzagorta Vallín and me and emblazoned by me. In Castilian heraldic tradition, the «adiestrado» ~ «tierce» used in this coat of arms and its symmetrical «siniestrado» ~ «tierce sinister» are «irregular divisions of the field by one line» ~ «particiones irregulares». That is why I use «tierce» and «tierce sinister» in English. There is another possibility, which is to call the «adiestrado» ~ «pale in dexter flank» and the «siniestrado» ~ «pale in sinister flank», thus ceasing to be a type of «divisions of the field» ~ «particiones» and becoming «ordinaries» ~ «piezas fundamentales». This has implications, as the rule of tinctures would apply if it were considered a «pale» ~ «palo». In any case, I will write the blazon in both ways. Alternative blazon: Azure, a dexter arm vested, issuant from sinister, grasping a pilgrim's staff palewise, issuant from base, tied to it a gourd bendwise; on a pale in dexter flank Argent two keys points upwards, in saltire, between in chief an escallop, and in base a mullet of five points environed at dexter by a crescent bendwise azure.

Design rationale

These are canting arms because her surname is «Peregrina» ~ «pilgrim», and her coat of arms depicts the arm of a pilgrim, as she is one herself, with her staff and her gourd for carrying water, advancing towards the dexter, in order to reach the destination of her three most important life pilgrimages: Santiago de Compostela, Rome, and Jerusalem.

This is the coat of arms of the Universidad Peñafort of Mexico. It is a Law university and its name came from Raymond of Penyafort (XIII century) who compiled the Decretals of Gregory IX, which mostly remained in use until 1917, and that is why it is the patron saint of lawyers. The symbols Raymond of Penyafort are a key and a book. This coat of arms has been designed and emblazoned by me.
