Small-sized Giclée proof for the coat of arms of Ugnius Mikučionis-Vizgirda emblazoned by me. I usually employ the Giclée printing technique on Hahnemühle paper, produced by the paper mill founded in 1584 in southern Lower Saxony. This paper is made from 100% cotton, weighs 280 g/m² (sometimes 300 g/m²), and is manufactured using natural fibres and tones. These reduced-size proofs are printed to verify the fitting of the armorial achievement on the sheet, to check the registration marks that frame it, and to assess the rendering and balance of the heraldic tinctures before producing the final Giclée.

Escudo de armas del Ilmo. Sr. D. Manuel Novo Dabrio, diseñado por él y por mí y pintado por mí.

Coat of arms devised by me, illuminated with lights and shadows, outlined in Sable, with an ogee outer contour and with a leather finish.

Coat of arms of Ilmo. Sr. D. Manuel Novo Dabrio, designed by him and me and emblazoned by me. Most Castilian-to-English translations of the blazon of the coat of arms of Madrid, which features a «madroño» tree as its main charge, use the term «strawberry tree». However, while the fruits of the «madroño» are small and red, they are not strawberries. For this reason, I chose to describe it as «...a madrone tree (Arbutus unedo) Vert...» in my blazon, also including the Latin scientific name to avoid confusion. The fruits of this tree are referred to as «madrone fruits» or simply «madrone» in English, and as «madroñas» in Spanish. I believe the coat of arms of Madrid is somewhat canting, as the name Madrid begins with the same letters as «madroño». Curiously, according to the Diccionario de la Lengua Española, the word «madroño» may come from the pre-Roman term «motŏrŏnĕu» or its variant «morŏtŏnu», meaning «strawberry», which brings us back to «strawberry tree», but also with the meaning of «blueberry» or simply «madroño».

Coat of arms of Ilmo. Sr. D. Manuel Novo Dabrio, designed by him and me and emblazoned by me. Depending on heraldic traditions, the mantling can be of one colour doubled with a metal, or of several colours and metals. When it is decided to design it in a single colour doubled with a metal, a good rule, though not obligatory, is that the mantling be of the first colour and the first metal named in the blazon. There could be another colour or metal more relevant depending on the case, but this rule often gives good results. So in this case, applying this rule, the mantling is «Vert doubled Argent», since vert and argent are the first colour and metal named in the blazon: «Quarterly: 1 per pale: 1 Argent, a madrone tree (Arbutus unedo) Vert,...». The mantling is filled with my own hand-drawn diapering pattern, which I call «chinapieria», a word my mother used when she saw me drawing this kind of doodle as a young man, each motif drawn individually so that no two repeat exactly the same.

Instead of placing the Sacred Heart as an inescutcheon, as was initially considered, which would have covered parts of an already complex shield and, depending on heraldic traditions, inescutcheons can be a source of debate, it was placed in the crest, in a prominent position above the wreath, presiding over the whole achievement.
