R0033: the coat of arms of Antonio Pompili, of Italy, as registered by the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta and emblazoned by me for this register. In some Italian and Maltese arms registered by the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta, two coronets are displayed: the coronet placed directly above the shield represents the armiger’s personal rank or status, while the upper coronet represents the higher noble rank of the family line. Thus, for example, a son of a baron may personally bear the coronet of a noble above his arms, with the baronial coronet of his family displayed above it.

Andrea Pompili, hand-drawn

G0066: the coat of arms of Andrea Pompili, of Italy, as granted by the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta and emblazoned by me for this grant. The hand-drawn tree shown in this photograph was originally created for the coat of arms of Andrea Pompili, commissioned by Dr Charles A. Gauci, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta. Some time later, an art collector asked me for a dedicated hand drawing. I chose this tree because its canopy has a distinctive heraldic shape, setting it apart from the other drawings in his collection, as it was specifically designed to fit beneath the two chevronels. This is also the reason for the handwritten note «under a chevron» beside the drawing, note that chevronel is the heraldic term for a diminished chevron. Before sending it, I inscribed the sheet with a dedication, which explains the handwritten text visible alongside the artwork.
