The Hradec Králové Region is an administrative unit of the Czech Republic. It is located in the historical region of Bohemia. Its capital is Hradec Králové, whose Latin name is «Gradicium», hence its old name «Gradec». The letter «G» seen in both the coat of arms of the Hradec Králové Region and the coat of arms of its capital originates from this historical name. The lion rampant Anrgent, double queued and crowned in the 1st and 4th quarters is the symbol of Bohemia, and it also appears in the 1st and 4th quarters of the coat of arms of the Czech Republic. «Králové» means «of the queen» in Czech and there is a trefoiled crown in the 3rd quarter

G0115, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta's grant for the arms of Dr Martin Testaferrata Moroni Viani, Malta. These arms have been emblazoned by me for such grant. The photograph shows my hand-drawn delineation of the mulberry tree. The tree that I originally drew is in fact the mirror image of the one finally used in the coat of arms. This is a normal part of my working process: I draw the elements by hand in ink and then digitize them, which allows me to reverse an image when I consider that the mirrored version works better within the overall composition of the arms. In this particular case, the reversal also helped to maintain a certain visual continuity with another family representation of the same arms, which the armiger wished to take into account. A similar consideration applied to the bull, for which the armiger also requested a stylistic approach broadly consistent with an existing family representation, while still preserving my own manner of drawing and painting.

G0115, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta's grant for the arms of Dr Martin Testaferrata Moroni Viani, Malta. These arms have been emblazoned by me for such grant. The image combines the finished painted coat of arms with a photograph showing 2 successive hand-drawn studies of the bull salient and guardant described in the blazon. Executed directly in ink on translucent tracing paper, the lower sheet preserves an earlier stage of the artwork, while the upper sheet presents a more advanced version of the same bull salient and guardant. Both belong to the development of the charge that appears in 4 quarters of this coat of arms. Above the photograph appears my painting of this coat of arms, allowing a comparison between the successive hand-drawn stages and their final heraldic interpretation. In this case, both this bull salient and guardant and the demi-bull guardant of the crest were developed taking into account the armiger’s wish that they should retain a certain stylistic continuity with an existing family representation, while still preserving my own manner of drawing and painting.
