In a ordinary, engrailed denotes that its edges are formed by a sequence of arcs and that the points produced by the junctions of said arcs point towards the exterior of the ordinary itself. In a partition, engrailed denotes that its borders are also formed by a sequence of arcs that are convex from the point of view of the 1^st partition and concave from the point of view of the 2^nd partition.

In English, angrelado is called «engrailed» and its complementary term, that is, when the points of the arc junctions point to the opposite side, is acanalado.
