Design rationale

Promet Restoration is company devoted to the preservation and restoration of fine pianos, antique furniture, and historic wooden artefacts, prometrestoration.com. Founded in San Francisco in 1989 by Tynis Promet, and later established in Seattle, the company continues a family tradition that began in 1983 at the National Maritime Museum in Tallinn, Estonia, under the mentorship of Ülo Ots, son of the renowned opera singer Georg Ots. Over the decades, Promet Restoration has restored more than four hundred Steinway pianos and countless heirloom pieces, upholding the mission «To preserve the heirlooms for generations to come». The arms of the company derive from those of the Promet family, simplified and adapted for corporate use. They retain the Estonian heraldic inspiration and the distinctive dovetailed base, a reference to the woodworking joint symbolising precision, craftsmanship, and enduring quality, the very principles upon which the company was founded. The family motto «Per Aspera ad Astra» gives way here to the corporate motto «Quality & Integrity · Est. 1989», expressing the firm’s professional ethos and artistic dedication.

The Promet family are the founders and owners of Promet Restoration, a company devoted to the preservation and restoration of fine pianos, antique furniture, and historic wooden artefacts, prometrestoration.com. Their tradition began in 1983 at the National Maritime Museum in Tallinn, Estonia, under the mentorship of Ülo Ots, son of the renowned opera singer Georg Ots. Founded in San Francisco in 1989 and later established in Seattle, Promet Restoration has since restored more than four hundred Steinway pianos and countless heirloom pieces. The company’s mission «To preserve the heirlooms for generations to come» embodies both artistic integrity and respect for craftsmanship. The arms combine Estonian heraldic inspiration with the form of dovetail joints, a symbol of precision and enduring workmanship, as used in the crafting of pianos and fine furniture. The February 2026 edition of Ireland’s Genealogical Gazette, the monthly newsletter of the Genealogical Society of Ireland, is now available online.

Page 4 features an article marking the approaching 900 years of heraldry, recalling the traditional date associated with Geoffrey of Anjou and the first documented coat of arms, and highlighting the International Heraldry Day celebrated each 10 June.

The article also reports the call issued by Heraldry Ireland for heraldic societies worldwide to work together in the organisation of a shared cycle of commemorations for the 900th anniversary of heraldry, from 10 June 2027 to 10 June 2028.
