Željko Heimer, «Propedeutica heraldica. Uvod u blazoniranje u 20 lekcija», 190 pages, with colour illustrations, edition in Croatian, dimensions 26.5 centimeters, published by FF press, ISBN 9789533791692, Zagreb, Croatia, 2025.
The recently published book by Dr. Željko Heimer, titled «Propedeutica heraldica. Uvod u blazoniranje u 20 lekcija», is an important contribution to contemporary heraldic scholarship.
«Propedeutica heraldica» offers a structured introduction to the language of blazon through 20 carefully designed lessons, providing a systematic foundation for understanding and composing heraldic descriptions. Conceived as a university manual and published by FF-press of the University of Zagreb, it represents a significant step in consolidating heraldic terminology and practice in Croatia, where the technical language of blazon has too often lacked methodological consistency.
With 190 pages in large format, the work responds to a long-standing need for clarity and rigor in heraldic education, reaffirming blazon as the essential technical language of heraldry.
It has been a particular honour for me that the author has included two sets of heraldic compositions by me proposed within the book as practical exercises in blazoning. I am sincerely grateful for his generosity.
Dr. Željko Heimer is the President of the «Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques» (FIAV) and President of the Croatian Heraldic & Vexillological Association, with decades of academic teaching experience in heraldry and vexillology at university level in Zagreb. His work has played a central role in the modern development of heraldic studies in Croatia.
The book is expected to be available through the distributor Knjizara Dominovic acting for FF Press knjizara-dominovic.hr/en/propedeutica-heraldica-uvod-u-blazoniranje-u-20-lekcija-product-58498.
